Joaquin S. Aldrete, MD

Dr. Aldrete is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Surgery at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He currently resides in Carlsbad, CA with his wife, Melinda.

During his illustrious career, he initiated an incipient liver transplant program at the University of Alabama (1983), and has the distinction of having performed the first 20 liver transplants.

Joaquin's new Windows-based computer has proven to be almost as challenging as doing a liver transplant (he says), and he faces it with similar tenacity and commitment. He currently uses Powerpoint to assemble slides for lectures that he gives year-round and, on occasion, he seeks advice from Joan at ComputED Learning Center.

The Aldrete household is cross-platform! Melinda enjoys using her colorful Macintosh system, and once in awhile, she gets a few pointers from Joan.

The Aldretes are among the thousands of seniors who have bridged the digital divide in recent years.
