[The Rosen Publishing Group (212) 777-3017, Grades 9-12]

Teen Health and Wellness: Real Life, Real Answers is a simple and well-planned website, offering access to a wide range of valuable resources for teenagers. There is a 30-day free trial period, after which schools or libraries may subscribe.

The website/database targets age-appropriate information concerning the medical and emotional needs of teens, with self-help tools on topics such as diseases, drugs, alcohol, nutrition, fitness, mental health, diversity, family life, and more. Of note is the emphasis on reassurance (e.g., the article on
Death and Society offers advice on how to deal with the death of a sibling or parent), with suggestions for seeking counseling or professional assistance. Listed are hotlines, help lines, and information lines, organized by subject. National organizations can refer teens to state and local services.

Articles are written by professional writers, experienced in communicating to a teen audience, and with expertise in varied fields such as science, medicine, psychology, guidance and career counseling. Content is updated regularly.
Teen Health and Wellness is highly deserving of the award  in the category High School Life Skills.

MultiLab Software/MultiLogPRO
[Fourier Systems (877) 266-4066, Post-Secondary]

The cornerstone of scientific inquiry is the gathering and measuring of data.  These activities require an astonishing variety of tools, a daunting fact that confronts schools and science instructors every day.

MultiLogPRO with MultiLab Software sets a new benchmark in data logging tools.  The basic kit contains a temperature probe, pH Probe, User Guide, ECOLog XL quick reference guide, and Experiments in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics books, in addition to the handheld module which has 65 different sensors (along with software which downloads and analyzes data).

MultiLogPRO can be integrated with TI Calculators, models 83 and above.  Used together, students are able to conduct almost any experiment in Biology, Chemistry, or Environmental Sciences, either in the lab or in the field.

Simple to use, yet complex in its array of data collection and processing abilities, this 2007 EDDIES Post-Secondary Science winner could be used throughout the secondary years as well.

As in the saying: What you hear, you forget; what you see you remember; and what you do, you understand - students will be remembering and understanding far more with
MultiLogPRO.
